Common Items to Gather Before Visiting Your CPA:

  • A list of questions you may have

  • All forms, for example:

    • W-2 Form(s)

    • 1099 Form(s)

  • Stock/Bond/Mutual Fund Statement(s)

  • 1098 Form(s) (Mortgage Interest Statements)

  • Tuition Statement(s)

  • Miscellaneous items, such as:

    • charitable contributions

    • medical expenses

    • medical mileage

    • moving expenses

    • job search expenses

    • unreimbursed employee expenses

    • security box rental amount

    • investment expenses

 

 

 

 

 

  • Property tax statement(s)

  • Estimated tax payment amounts and dates for federal and state

  • Any correspondence received during the year from the IRS or state

  • Copy of prior year's tax return

  • Social Security Numbers and birthdates of you, your spouse, and any dependents you may have

  • If you have a business, all records of receipts and disbursements, mileage log(s)

  • If in doubt, bring all statements, forms, and amounts in!

  • Depending on each person's unique tax situation, other items may need to be gathered by you and analyzed by the CPA
